5 tips and tricks for effective hayfever relief
1. Keep windows closed during peak pollen times
There tends to be an especially high pollen count in the morning when they rise with the warming air and early evening when pollen falls as it cools. Shutting windows may seem crazy in the warmer weather but it will stop the pollen coming in doors and getting all over your furniture. c
2. Wash and change clothes when you get home
Pollen sticks to anything, so try to avoid spreading around your homes by changing your clothes, washing your hair if possible when you’ve been out for the day.
3. Use cooling eye mask to help soothe puffy eyes
Throw an eye mask (such as one of our Eliza Eliza Organic lavender and flaxseed Eye Pillows) in the freezer for half and hour. Then use to cool, relieve and soothe, sore and itchy eyes. Works particularly well just before bedtime. Slices of cucumber also work well straight from the fridge.
4. Avoid drying washing outside when pollen count high
Aim to dry washing on clothes line either in middle of the day, when pollen at lowest. Especially bedsheets as pollen laden bedding is certainly not going to help you get a good nights rest.
5. Use Eucalyptus essential oil
An anti-inflammatory, eucalyptus oil can help with congestion and give some sinus relief. Can be used in a diffuser or burner to disperse the oil around the room or a few drops in hot water for more intense steam inhalation. A couple of drops of Eucalyptus oil can also be added to a handkerchief and inhaled when you need a quick breathe easy quick, place next to your pillow at night to help you sleep.
