Abseil for Big Moose mental health charity
Don’t let the smile deceive you…at this point I was absolutely petrified!
On Sunday 10th July 2022 myself and 74 others abseiled 133ft down the iconic St David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay.
Why?
To raise money to help provide therapy and early and timely intervention for people struggling with their mental health. As well as providing training for businesses to better support their teams.
As many of you know who have supported me for a while, I have struggled with my mental health in the past, particularly post natal depression, which I spoke about during a Warrior Women Event back in February 2020. My anxiety has been so bad over the years, I struggle to leave the house…yet here I am hanging by a rope off the roof of one of the tallest buildings in Cardiff! A reminder that not every day feels the same with your mental health. There are UP days and DOWN days.
My personal aim for the abseil fundraiser was to raise £400 to enable someone to access immediate 4 x sessions of potentially life saving therapy. With your help this goal was smashed and an incredible £1,030 was raised. A HUGE Thank You to everyone who dug deep and donated.
During lockdown 2020 Cardiff charity Big Moose began providing therapy for lots of people and have been told by five people that without their intervention they would have ended their lives.
Due to early and impactful intervention 5 people are still alive. 5 families aren't grieving and the world still had these amazing humans in it.
Post lockdown, Big Moose were hearing more and more of people struggling and lives being lost. In 2020, 5224 people killed themselves in England and Wales. They recognised that people needed help, now more than ever.
As Big Moose listened to people's stories one thing that they were hearing time and time again was that the therapy and intervention that people needed was taking too long and was inaccessible for so many people.
And the Project £1 Million idea was born! The aim, to raise £1 Million in 2022 and get more people quicker access to the therapy they need.
Through various fundraising events Big Moose and those of us who have pledged to support their goal, we are determined to hit this target by 31st December 2022.
How can you help?
Well by all means please, please, please donate as little or as much as you can. But we also we need to help to raise the profile for this campaign. Share with your friends and family, tag celebs and influencers in social media posts, run your own school/office fundraisers or collections.
Together we WILL achieve our goal and as a result continue to save lives.
